Fall Bucket List 2020.

Today is the first official day of fall!  We decided to make a bucket list for this season.  My daughter Hadley and I sat down last night and went over a list of things to do for the Fall.  She's as sad as I am that summer is over, read post here, but it's time to move on to the next season.  Without further ado, here is our 2020 Fall Bucket List!

1.  Carve pumpkins.

We have carved pumpkins since I was a little kid, it's usually the week before or of Halloween so the pumpkins don't get slimy and grossI feel like no matter how old the kids get, this is always a favorite part of the fall season.

2.  Decorate mantel / front porch.

I really do love decorating for all the seasons each year.  Pumpkins on the porch,  leaves, fall colors, and spooky things added to the fall decor.

3.  Paint nails a deep fall color.

Want to paint the nails a deep mauve color, dark brownish, or gray.

4.   Go to a bonfire.

Going to a bonfire is usually always on our list of things to do in the fall.  One of Kevin's friends has a huge bonfire at his house every year, along with a guy playing the guitar, hayrides, and a chili cookoff.  We've only missed it once because our anniversary fell on the same day!

 5.  Make S'mores.

Hadley swears she loves s'mores, but I don't think she's ever really tired a true s'more cooked by the fire.  Can't wait to watch her try one, and to eat a few myself.

6.  Jump in a pile of leaves.

What kid doesn't like to jump in a pile of leaves?  We have so many gorgeous trees in our backyard and end up having massive amounts of leaves each year.  So this is a perfect item for the list!

7.  Harry Potter movie night.

I am a huge Harry Potter fan, and so is my sweet daughter Hadley.  Well, she really has only seen the first one but is a fan.  Daddy isn't really a fan, so we'll plan this night on a day he works for sure.

8.  Chili & Football party.

Would love to invite family over for some of Kevin's delicious chili, and to watch a Bengals game.  Right now, it's hard to say if things will happen with COVID going on, but even if it doesn't happen we can still have chili and watch football together.

9.  Watch a scary movie.

This one is really for me, to watch a scary movie with Kevin one night.  I hate hate hate scary movies, but want to watch one this year for some reason.  Hadley wants to watch one too, so I'll have to find one that is semi scary for kids too!

10.  Send just because pretty mail.

I love sending mail to people, it's just something I've always loved doing.  I love picking out cards for people, I love decorating the envelope all pretty, and I love the fact that people get a smile on their face when they receive mail from me.  So I'm going to send some fall themed happy mail this season, just because.

11.  Bake an apple pie.

I've never made a pie from scratch before, so I'd like to give it a whirl this year.

12.  Go to a pumpkin patch.

Something about going to a place to pick out your own pumpkins, take a hay ride, and getting your shoes/boots all messy in the dirt/hay.

13.  Diffuse fall oils.

I love to come up with different blends of essential oils.

14.  Get cozy by the fire.

My goal is to snuggle up by the fireplace this season.

15.  Watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

If you haven't watched this parade as a kid, you haven't really lived during the fall season.  Let's hope the parade happens this year!

16.  Create a fall cocktail / mocktail.

It would be super fun to create something fun either with alcohol or without alcohol for the kids, but either way want to come up with a festive and creative drink for the fall.

17.  Make a fall / Halloween cake.

Hadley loves to make cakes, or bake anything really.  We are going to try and make a fall festive themed cake, or Halloween cake.  Anything can be Halloween related if you add some candy eyes to it!

18.  Take a fall hike.

We've never hiked before as a family, would love to find a pretty place to go and explore nature.

19.  Watch Becca get married.

My cousin gets married in two weeks, and we cannot wait!

20.  Fall family photos.

This is one of the items that's always on the list!

21.  Watch You've Got Mail.

This one is not on the handmade list, but this movie totally reminds me of Fall and I'd love to watch it with a bunch of girls for a movie night.

Cheers to crossing off all the things!  We have our list posted in the kitchen!

Today is the last day of Summer 2020!

As I say every year, Summer is my absolute favorite season!  I'm sad to see it come to a close, as the weather has started changing already!  The cooler temperatures, and leaves falling, are a sure sign that fall is coming.

Our favorite hamburger meal.

This hamburger meal is super simple and easy to make, I have it multiple times a week it's so good!  I started doing Keto a few months ago and loving it.  It's very easy for me and that's what I love about it.

Not all ingredients shown, super simple.  You can increase/decrease any of the ingredients to your liking.  The original recipe calls for 3 cups of noodles of choice, but since we are doing Keto we've omitted the noodles and just eat the meat.

In a large heavy skillet, cook bacon until crisp.  Remove to paper towel or plate, chop into small pieces.

Crumble the ground beef into a skillet, and continue cooking until the beef is no longer pink, stir frequently.

Add chili sauce, tomato paste, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.  Stir to blend.

Crumble the bacon and add it to the skillet.  Add a little bit of water if you like it more juicy.

That's it for this recipe!  Super easy!  You can make more and use it for leftovers which we do quite often.  Hope you enjoy this hamburger meal we love so much!

One week of Kindergarten.

Today marks the first full week of Kindergarten for our sweet Hadley.  We went out to dinner the first day last week to celebrate.  Grandma and Grandad gave her a fun remote control truck, followed by games of  Hangman.  All of last week, her school went half day only.  I'm guessing to get used to wearing masks everyday, and to see how things go.

On Labor Day, we checked out a playground by our house and she loved it.  Spent a long time there, we had the entire place to ourselves, and it was super clean!

After the playground, we went home to take a nice long nap.  Her and Daddy both napped.  We went bowling for a quick game, and then out to dinner.

Her first full day of Kindergarten was today!  She did great.  I don't really understand why at this grade level they have to carry canvas bags instead of backpacks.  It's super hard to carry a lunch, water bottle, mask, etc.  But sure enough, they make do.  She was most excited to eat lunch in the cafeteria with her friends with her new lunch bag.

After school, we stopped and got her favorite blue Icee for a special treat.  And then studied site words, and she did this willingly!  I hope she never loses her drive to learn.

Later on after school was her first dance practice for the season!  We are trying out a different place than last year, and she loved it.

She was such a trooper for her first full week of school.  She has been very brave for all of these new "firsts" she's been experiencing.  We are so proud of our big Kindergartner!

A Three Day Weekend.

What a week this has been!  Here's a little recap of what our week looked like...

On Monday, Hadley and Daddy went to lunch, putt putt, and ice cream.  These two have a special bond for sure, she loves spending one on one time with her Dad.
She had a little bit of work to do before the first day of school.  She filled out an "All About Me" page and was really focused on writing her letters and words just right.

Big things happened on Tuesday, Hadley started Kindergarten and is loving it!

Grandma and Grandad met us for dinner to hear all about Hadley's big first day.

Kevin painted Hadley's room this week too.  She's been wanting to paint her room since Summer started.  So what better time to paint than the week she starts Kindergarten!  We are calling it her big girl room!  It's almost put together, can't wait to share more.
She slept in Natalie's room one night so the paint could dry.  She looks so comfy!

It's a holiday weekend around here and we're headed to the lake!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Half Birthday.

Today is my half birthday.  Some years we celebrate them, some years we don't.  We didn't potentially "celebrate" it today, but I thought about it.  Six months from now I'll be another year older.  Isn't that just fabulous?  I don't care how old I am turning, I still love birthdays.  Always will.

So happy half birthday to myself.

And happy Thursday.

Hadley starts Kindergarten.

Hadley started Kindergarten today!  She has been so excited for what feels like years, she couldn't wait for this day to come.

The past few weeks leading up to this day has been very exciting for her.  Shopping for school supplies, new shoes, etc.  I want her to have the best memories of these school days, because we all know school doesn't get easier it only gets harder.  Anything I can do to make these times for her enjoyable, I will certainly do.

The night before the big day, I gave her a bracelet.  It was such a cute thing to give her for school and to help ease all the nerves on her first day.  Bracelets from Etsy.

The morning of was a fun breakfast!  Daddy went out and got her favorite donut (minus the sprinkles because they were out).  She woke up with the biggest smile on her face as she came downstairs.

Donut and orange juice for the big Kindergartner!

For the first month, the kids get to wear shorts and spirit wear shirts since they have to wear masks and it'll be a little hot.  Hadley loved this, but I really wanted a photo with the super cute plaid jumper but that will come in time.

We loved the yard sign the school dropped off to us before school started!

Oh my heart.  She was excited up until she got to the classroom.  The tears just poured out of her little face.  It was hard as a Mom to see, but just like anything else in life, things get better as we get used to them.  Not really knowing anyone in class, new environment, new teacher, new everything is hard on kids.  But I have faith that the tears stopped and she warmed up.

Today feels like the end of the "young years" together.  School starts, and that comes with new friendships, homework, and a whole new world of newness.  A wonderful world awaits you my sweet girl, but that new beginning also closes a chapter of the baby years.

Kindergarten is the starting point of your life beyond our family.  And that is a very good thing, but it's a bittersweet thing, too.

As you begin this journey, I have many hopes and dreams for you...

I hope that you learn about the beautiful people in our diverse world, and you find your place within it.

I hope you find friends who laugh at your jokes, let you into their secret clubs and invite you to their birthday parties.

I hope you learn that it's more than okay to fail, it means you are pushing yourself and learn new things about yourself along the way.

I hope you learn to do hard things, stand up for the kid others are picking on, and go out of your way to be kind.

I hope you continue to be yourself, do your own thing, and express yourself the way your little personality shines through everywhere you go.

You're going to do amazing things.
