dear hadley / 5 years.

Dear Hadley,

Today you are 5.  Your Dad and I can't believe you are 5!  Happy Birthday babe!  You are so excited to celebrate your birthday.  I feel like I say this every year, but I still can't believe we've made it this far.  Each year seriously gets better and better.  I love the young little girl you are growing up to be.

I love how quickly you are grasping new concepts and expanding your vocabulary.  I love that we can carry on real conversations.  I absolutely love that you will say "I love you Mama" out of the blue for no reason at all.  It makes my heart just melt, every time.  Even though it can be a little exhausting, you sure do have opinions about what you want to wear and where you want to go.  Each year, it seems, keeps getting better and better and I'm trying my best to remember it for what it is.

You definitely know much more than I think you do.  Almost daily, I am shocked by something new, some antic or word you've picked up.  And the best part is you will use the newly found word or phrase in the proper way.  It makes my grammar loving self beam with happiness.

You are in your last year of preschool, and you love to help your teachers out.  They always say you are so willing to help, you will clean up other peoples mess without any hesitation, you are a great listener, and you will sit patiently until it's your turn to do something.  I don't want to fast forward your little life, but I cannot wait until you are in kindergarten.  You talk about it all the time, you can't wait to go to a big school and learn lots of things.  You have mastered writing your full name on paper, still need to work on your little a's, but you've got all the other letters down for the most part.  You want to be the smartest girl in kindergarten.  I love how you will grab a piece of paper, and just start writing or drawing.  You are loving site words, and writing them out.  I hope you never lose your willingness to learn!

The biggest thing you are looking forward to for your birthday is getting your ears pierced.  You have wanted them pierced since you were 4, but we decided to wait until you turned 5.  So here we are.  You've even watched YouTube videos of little girls getting their ears pierced, and you still can't wait to get it done.  You are growing up so fast.

Your favorite place to eat dinner at is still Cancun.  You love the white cheese, just like your Daddy and I.  You want to go there for dinner any time we say we are going out to eat.  We've created a white cheese lover!  I will admit, you have gotten braver and braver when it comes to trying new foods.  Nine times out of ten you won't like it, but at least you are trying different foods!

Being your Mom is the greatest joy of my life.  You are kind, brave, smart and beautiful.  You are such a bright light in our family and it's been the best to watch you grow and help you along the way.  I can't wait to see where this next year takes you.

I love you Hadley Mae.  Happy Birthday.

Love,
Mom

from the weekend.

Celebrated Brady turning 15!  His birthday was on the 10th so we celebrated this past weekend.  I made him a cake, the frosting was homemade and so so good!
Saturday morning while Dad and Natalie were at a volleyball meeting, these two were on the couch watching YouTube videos together.  So cute!
Sunday we went to my parents house and Hadley had a grand old time baking cookies with Grandma.  She loves to be in the kitchen.  So much she had flour all over her face.  Grandma says, you know the cookies are going to turn out good when the kitchen is a mess!

We had a great weekend, was nice to spend time all together.  We did family photos on Saturday and Miss Natalie is a straight up comedian, she was hilarious.  Every time we'd try to set up the timer, she would run to get the camera to check the photo and most times she would run too soon and the photo would be of her running.  Her demeanor was just too funny!  The big kids are super active in sports, school, etc., and it makes it hard to find a good balance to make time for each other.  This past weekend they had no activities, besides a volleyball meeting, and it was nice to just "be" together.  Hadley just adores her big brother and sister and gets so excited every time they are at our house.  She wants them to stay and never leave.  We are looking forward to the holidays and making more memories in our new house!

Happy Monday folks!

A little taste of fall from our backyard.  So excited to see the change in seasons.  It's pretty this  November.  And this was one of my favorite photo walks.

All photos were taken with my Canon DSLR.

from the long weekend.

Started off our long weekend with a trip to Kroger to start the shopping for Thanksgiving!  Hadley pushed around the little Tom in her little cart.  And since Grandma was with us, she always manages to get a little something extra as you can see Elsa jammies in her cart too.
On Saturday, we ventured out in the bitter cold for the UC Homecoming Parade!  Hadley wanted to wear two buns but we only have one UC bow so we made it work.  I love marching bands, and especially the Ooooh Ooooh Oooooh U C song!  It was super super cold, but we had a good spot on the street and it was a fun parade to see.  My favorite part was all the handmade fraternity floats with the young kids partying on the float.  Oh to be young again!
Happy 15th Birthday to Brady!  He was not with us this weekend, but we were thinking of him on his special day.
We had a family dinner Saturday night, it was fun to see everyone.  Hadley and her cousin Adalynn just have a ball together.
Sunday morning, Kevin and I cleaned the house like a good deep clean.  Hadley helped me scrub the showers, which is my least favorite thing to clean ever!  Hadley played so well upstairs in her room and with her babies.  She's going to make a great Mom one day.
Sunday night we celebrated Kevin turning 40 with my family.  My Mom brought a sparkler as a candle.  Good thing he's a fireman right?!?!
With Veteran's Day being a government holiday, I was off work Monday!   Did some major deep cleaning with the carpets and the kitchen/hallway tile.  Smells so fresh and the floors are super shiny.  Amazing what some super duper cleaner will do.
The super tan skinny fella on the left is my Dad, he was a Marine.  The guy on the right is my Uncle Hank, he was a Navy pilot.  Happy Veteran's Day (yesterday).
Monday night we got our first snow fall!  I will always be a summer girl, but the first snow is always so pretty!  Hadley was so excited when she saw the snow coming down, she ran upstairs and got on her snow boots and wanted to be the first one outside in it.  Side note, I soo need to cover our grill!

Happy Monday, make it a great week!

around here.

around here sent out the Thanksgiving Day invites!!!  We are so excited to host this year.
around here Hadley wearing my vest being a goofball.
around here have always voted since I turned 18.  Hope you all voted!
around here this lucky girl got a big treat for getting her flu shot.  Daddy took her and she cried before she got the shot, but didn't cry when she got it.  She's such a good kiddo.
around here love this little outdoor decor for Thanksgiving / Fall.  Stuck it right in the middle of our big pot on the front porch.

It's been one hectic week, and we have a hectic weekend up ahead too!  But a fun hectic weekend!  So.  Many.  Things.  This time of year is when things get super super busy, the holidays, get togethers, birthdays, it all seems to just rush on by when November arrives.  Had some serious things come up earlier in the week, and it really makes you think about the people in your life.  I'm glad I have the troops in my life I have now.  The ones that I don't talk to as much anymore, well, there's always a reason for that.  Life is too damn short to have drama mama's, ain't got time for that!

Always glad for the weekends, the weather looks like it'll be sunshine but chilly.  Guess we can expect that from now on.  For Saturday, going to a parade during the day, and then dinner with the family on Sunday!  Love my family!

Happy weekend.  Have a good one.
