firefighter you would think we have practiced a fire escape plan in our new home. Unfortunately, we haven't. Believe me, it's on my list of things to do! I want the kids to feel comfortable if a fire were to ever happen.
When I lived in Florida growing up, we experienced a house fire. I will never forget that day. My Dad waking my brother and I up, walking down the hallway to the front door, seeing the family room on fire, and hurrying out the front door to the street for safety. I think I was in 2nd or 3rd grade, somewhere around there, to me as a young kid, it seemed like our entire street had fire trucks lined up outside our house. I don't remember much after that, my parents took us to the neighbors house while they stayed with the firefighters.
Fires can happen in seconds, and it takes minutes to get out of the house safely. With this week being fire prevention week, I encourage you to sit down and talk to your family members about fire safety. You never want to go through it, but if it ever does happen, you want to be prepared.
