2019 planner.

Here is my 2019 planner!  It's one of my favorite things to buy every year!  This year I went with the Happy Planner again for the second year in a row.  I just love this one so much!  The planner itself is thick, but the front cover and back cover are laminated super thick so it can withstand going back and forth with me everyday.
The planner is marked for the current week with a giant paper clip I got from a sweet co-worker.  It matches the colors on the front cover and some pages inside.  The weekly spread that is broken out into three sections is my favorite. I treat the top as the morning, middle is afternoon, and bottom is the evening.  I have a few countdowns this year, so that is what the random numbers are on the top boxes.
When you first open the planner, I have added a pocket insert page.  On the front and back is a little pocket where you can put papers and what not inside.
At the beginning of each month is a section to write down goals, notes, or take note of special days.  And on the other side, a really cool saying or photo is on the page where the month begins.
The next page is the monthly view of each month.  I use this area to write down birthdays, bills, and the older kids' schedule.
Here is another look at the weekly spread.  Some weeks I have stickers on special days, I have a color code system where I write different things in different colors.  I just started using my personal planner for work this year, since the planner I bought for work had pages printed incorrectly!  So instead of buying another one, going to use this one and have it all in one place.
For the month of March (my birthday month!), it has my favorite saying and photo.  "Take me to the water."  Ahhhhh!
The back page looks like this. I chose this planner specifically because it reminded me of the calming ocean waters. Have I mentioned the ocean is my favorite?  Can't wait to get there this year!

What planners do you use?  I love watching other people decorate their planners each week, I strive to do that but don't always get the chance to.  It's very inspiring though!

Mornings.  I am not a fan of them lately.

A few times a week, I take our four year old to preschool.  She has to get up super early, and I let her sleep until the absolute last minute.  I give her the option, to get woken up early so we can take our time, or sleep till the last minute and go fast.  She always opts for the sleep in and go fast.  She is nine times out of ten, a dream in the morning.  With enough sleep, she is super happy, and the older she gets the more independent she is.  A four year old being independent makes me sad, but I also look at it as she is learning to be self-sufficient.  She won't always have her parents around to help right?  But then again, should a four year old be super independent?  I struggle with that daily.

So anyways, I thought it would be a good idea to list how a typical morning goes for me...

5:00am - I wake up, hit snooze at least twice, and then hop in the shower.
5:45am - Done getting ready for work.
5:50am - Wake up Hadley.  Say her name a few times, lay in her bed, rub her hair, say wake up sleepy head, or whatever comes to mind.
5:55ish am - Hadley goes to the bathroom.  Runs back into her room, and gets back under the covers.
5:56am - I pick out an outfit or two, sometimes she gets herself dressed, and sometimes we play a game and I dress her.  Makes it more fun, and we all need a happy kiddo that early.
6:00am - Hadley starts brushing her teeth, and brushes her hair.
6:01am - Go downstairs to make both of our lunches.
6:02am - Let George out.
6:05am - Start making lunches, and eat breakfast for myself.  Yell upstairs, ask Hadley what she wants for breakfast, pack her breakfast, she doesn't eat it until she gets to school.
6:10am - Hadley comes downstairs, usually all happy.
6:10am - Yell outside for George, he comes running in, and lays on his bed.
6:11am - Gather Hadley's school stuff which consists of her water bottle, blankey for nap, and her lunchbox.  Gather my work stuff, my lunchbox, my work bag, my purse, put it all in the car.
6:15-6:20am - Grab our coats, buckle up Hadley in her car seat, that takes forever now that it's a booster seat, and then head off to drop her off to school!
6:25-6:35am - Arrive at Hadley's school, either wait in the car for 5 minutes until they open, or go inside.  We go up to her room, put her lunchbox in the fridge, put her water bottle in the bin, put her nap blankey in her nap bag, go downstairs to the basement (muscle room), hug and kiss goodbye.
6:30-6:36am - Drive to work.
7:00am - Arrive at work.

When we moved into our new house, I am so glad we decided to stay on the west side of town.  Hadley's school is 10 minutes from our house, and my commute to work is maybe 20 minutes which is a dream.  I am so thankful for the commute times!

What I need to do differently in the mornings:
- Lay out work clothes the night before.
- Have Hadley pick out her outfit (or two in case of a meltdown) the night before.
- Make lunches the night before.
- Ask Hadley what she wants for breakfast the night before, and have that packed.
- Have my work bag and purse in the same spot the night before.  (You don't know how many times I've forgotten my work bag and had to turn around to come back and get it)!

Every morning, I feel like a crazy person, rushing around like a chicken with my head cut off.  I hate feeling that way, it's not a good way to start the day.  One good thing about my crazy mornings, is I do manage to eat breakfast before I get in the car, but that is scarfing it down real quick.

Basically, it boils down to I need to do everything the night before!  I get so wrapped up into watching TV at night, and having alone time with either myself or Kevin, and when it's bed time, or I've passed out on the couch, I'm usually so exhausted to do anything I don't even bother with it!

Okay, my little rant for the day.  Sometimes it helps blogging about personal things for me, it's always on my brain.

Happy Monday!!  Let's hope for an easier morning routine the rest of this week.  I can do this!

around here.

Yay for Friday!  And another yay for a full week of blogging!

Have you all managed to stay healthy this winter?  Kevin and I have (crossing fingers), and Hadley has had strep throat so far.  I've heard a few people already getting two different strains of the flu.  Please God no.  Last year I managed to get the flu twice, and two different strains of it.  I'm over here taking my Emergen-C daily, multi-vitamins, and drinking massive water.  Please stay away sicknesses!

Not much up for this weekend, except it's going to be cold.  I'd almost rather have snow, than for it to be frigid temperatures.  The kids love the snow so much, it's fun to see them out playing in it.  I just love this view from the office in our home.  Everything is pretty much organized and situated the way I like it, now all that is left is what to put in what bin.  Slowly but surely, our house is coming along!

exist loudly.

Just for today, be the best version of yourself you can be.  No holding back.  No regrets.

Leave your mark in this world.  Be your valuable self.  You have a voice.  Find your voice and use it to express yourself.  You matter.  Talk.  Communicate.  Cry out.  Contribute.

Instead of tip-toeing around, maybe being afraid of whatever, free yourself of anything you are holding on to.

Get out there in the world and exist loudly!

k&m / january.

A new year of K&M monthly posts!  Yay!  Here is what we've been up to this month...

The beginning of January was pretty warm compared to most years.

However, the mid to end of January is getting back to the frigid temps like it's supposed to be.

The snow is pretty yes, but I am ready for it to be gone.

They started off the new year by not being together.

He had to work.

She had a fun night in with Hadley.

He is slowly starting to get used to his work schedule.

She loves the extra time he's home.

They have shared the chores of shoveling the driveway, we do it together when we can.

She can't wait for this month to be over.

The beginning months of the new year are always so blah.

I'm ready for sunshine and warmth!

Let's see how many times I can say that until spring arrives.

from our long weekend.

Saturday morning...Kevin got home from work and went straight to sleep.  We made some eggs for breakfast.
Saturday morning...we went to get her 4 year photos done.  We've been doing these since she turned 1!
Saturday ring was ready a week early!  I was so happy to have it back, it was so shiny and sparkly!
Saturday night...after Daddy got some sleep, we went out to eat to BucketHeads.  It's a restaurant right by our house, the food is good, the drinks are cheap, and the games for kids is fun!
Sunday afternoon...we went to the boat show!  The roads were a little crazy from all the snow we got again, but it was fun.  She loves getting in all the boats.
Sunday after the boat show...we lucked out getting a parking spot so close to the venue.  We had to wait maybe 5 minutes for the guy to bring our car over.
Sunday night...Daddy carried her up the stairs for bed time.
Monday morning...Daddy was back at work so it was just us.  Both Hadley and I were off for MLK Day!  We took George to doggie daycare.  He needed his nails trimmed desperately, so we made a day of it for him to stay for daycare.  He loves to play with all the dogs, and he comes home exhausted. After we dropped George off, Hadley has been wanting to paint big time.  One thing I miss about our old house is the basement, it was the best for painting.
Monday afternoon...while the babe took a glorious 3 hour nap, I dived into the office. I finally think I've got the room the way I want it.  This is the view from my desk, just lovely.
Monday early evening, Hadley woke up around 5pm.  We left to go pick up George, and then on the way home ran through the drive-thru for dinner because we didn't have much time to cook.  I promised her to paint after her nap, (well that was before she was going to sleep so long).  So she painted and ate at the table.
Monday night...she switches it up and sleeps with her favorite baby some nights.  Her favorite baby has no name, just baby.  Cracks me up she doesn't name her babies, but come to think of it, I don't think I did either as a kid.
Monday night...watched the Bachelor.  Some seasons I'm totally into the show, others I'm not.  This season I am.  Colton is dreamy, but seems so inexperienced with women, and the girls are crazy psycho.  Love some reality TV!  While I was sitting here watching TV, I kept thinking how I need to decorate the mantle badly, and change those window treatments!
Monday night...George was sawing logs while I watched TV.  He had a busy Monday, played with his friends all day long, got his nails trimmed (they are the best!), and got a bath.  He smells so good!

It was a great long weekend, but a cold one for sure.  I miss the mid 30 temps!  Spring can't get here soon enough.  But until then, I'll stay warm in my comfy clothes.  Love being off on MLK day, such a nice treat.  Have a great rest of the week everyone!

mlk day.

Today is a United States federal holiday.  It is celebrated on the third Monday of January every year.  In other words, thanks for the day off MLK!

around here.

around here we've been meal planning each week, it's nice to know ahead of time!
around here never had a planner that came with wrong dates before!
around here took my ring to the shop.  I hate not wearing a ring on that finger!
around here we had a late hair appointment for little miss.  So we all went together in our jammies, she got three inches cut off!

Whew we made it to Friday!  I've been a funk lately when it comes to blogging, I'll find my groove soon.  January and February seem to be the blah months of the year.  I am not motivated to do anything, except house stuff really.  But anyways, the weekend is here!  We have some fun things planned!

Have a good one...

keep going.

Every January, I love to think of a few new ideas for the blog.  Keeping up with this space on the internet can be tough because life can get so busy, and let's be honest, it's hard to come up with a blog post for everyday of the month!  (unless this was my full time job!) But I still try to as many days as I am able to.  Because why?  I love it.  It keeps me busy, and it's a forever memory for myself, and my family.  Which is why I keep going.

Here's what I'm going to strive for this year!

1.  K&M (for Kevin & Mandy)
Love to keep these monthly posts about Kevin and I, and what we are up to with a picture. It sort of makes us take photos with each other more too.

2.  Hadley in (insert month here)
Updates about Hadley and what's going on with her, I think I did every month in 2018 except three!  It's fun to see how tall she gets against the gigantic ruler in her room.
Click on each month to see post: January/February/March/April/May/June/July/August/skipped Sept/Oct/November/skipped Dec

3.  A birthday project? Or random projects each month?
I miss doing projects just for fun. Want to make time for this again, even just simple ones.

4.  Sew a quilt.
I tell myself this every year!

5.  Try one new recipe each month.
Can be anything, but something new to try. Dinner, dessert, snack, drink, anything.

6.  Sew Hadley a dress.
Any kind of dress. This one is too cute.

So there it is! It's nice to have plans for the blog.  We'll see what happens!

how we spent our NYE 2018.

For New Year's Eve this year, it was just my girl and I.  Kevin was working, and the big kids were with their Mother.  So we had the day to ourselves.  We decided to bake a New Year's Eve cake by asking our Google Home Mini for a good cake recipe.  She came up with the Vasilopita Greek New Years Cake, so we tried it!
She loved squeezing the oranges for fresh orange juice.
Traditionally with this cake, you wrap a quarter in aluminum foil and place it in the batter.  Whoever gets the piece with the quarter will be blessed and have good luck the next year.
While the cake baked, we took a break and watched some videos, and then took a nap.
Once the cake had cooled, I hand wrote and cut out the numbers 2019 for the new year, and placed them on the cake.
Hadley had fun pouring the sprinkles all over!
I thought it turned out pretty cute, probably would've worked better with powdered sugar but kids like icing and sprinkles better so that's what we did.
All ready to have our gourmet NYE dinner, which consisted of a smart ones meal for me, and a Kraft Mac & Cheese meal for her.  She did in fact eat once piece of broccoli, in order to have a piece of cake!
Hadley had the first piece.
She got the quarter!  I was so surprised!  I randomly cut the piece, and she got the lucky quarter! She was so excited.
After dessert, we did our nails.  They have got to make kid version of press-on nails somewhere out there!  Just have to find them.  She was still happy doing the larger than her fingernail nails, she loved it!
We did silly string after the nails!  In the kitchen of course, easy clean up.
Happy New Year!
For New Year's Day, we went over to my brother-in-law's house for the traditional pork and sauerkraut meal!  Thanks for having us!

Hope you all had a fabulous New Year's Eve!  The past two weeks have been a little overwhelming, but these last few days were super nice and relaxing.  Nothing planned.  Nowhere to be.  It was the best time spent with my girl.

Cheers to a great 2019!  Happy New Year!
