today is the first day...

of the rest of our lives.  You could say that everyday, but today is a big day for our family.
My husband is becoming a firefighter!
This past weekend, the fire department had an orientation for the families, it was so much fun and a little bit emotional.  Reality set in that this is really happening, my husband is going to be a fireman!  Seeing where he will be training everyday was very eye-opening, but so exciting!  Let's see how many times I can say exciting!
Hadley loves to say over and over again, "My Daddy is a fireman", it's the cutest thing.  Out of her brother and sister, she was the most excited and didn't want to get out of the firetruck.  I've never seen my husband so happy before, I mean I've seen him happy but this is a different kind of happy for sure.  He has been beaming all week!  It is the best thing to see, and I cannot say enough how happy I am for him.  He deserves this more than anyone I know, he has been through some times in this life and it's very refreshing to have this happen for him.  Things happen for a reason!  He is going to be the best fireman, he has always been the kind of person that wants to help others.  Always.  He will help anyone off the street, since I've been in his life from day one that has been his personality.  A career in firefighting is very fitting for him, and I can't wait to see him do great things.
Being a firefighter has been his life long dream, and it finally came true.  I am so very happy for him it's so hard to put into words.  I'm just so excited to be along side him during this new journey.  He finally has the career he's been dreaming of!  I can't wait to see where this takes us in our lives together.  And let's be honest, I really can't wait to see him all suited up in the fire gear!  Congrats babe, I ♥ you!

around here.

around here a little Spring decor.
around here playing the Watch Ya Mouth game and belly laughing it's so funny!
around here twinning with my mini-me.
around here our magnolia tree is blooming and it's beautiful!
around here wearing shorts and short sleeves, can't wait for warmer weather.
around here managed to see a day baseball game with my main squeeze.
around here eating ice cream on the back deck.
around here the pool is looking good, a few more days and I bet it'll be crystal clear!

So excited for this weekend again, yes I said that last weekend too but even more excited this time around!  The kitchen is almost done, almost.  Might not get done by this weekend, but it's pretty darn close to finished.  It's been so nice having the hubs home every night this week, like a normal schedule.  He's been working hard around the house.  The pool is looking awesome, we've been adding shock as needed, and soon enough it'll be crystal clear.  We'll just need mother nature to warm up the sky and then the water will warm up.  Hadley is so excited to see the water turning bluer and bluer.  Well, blue in her mind because the liner is blue so she thinks the water is blue like the ocean.  I cannot wait to have so many pool days this summer, relaxing in the back yard with the sun shining down!

Happy weekend!

from the weekend.

I foresee lots of pressure washing this summer.  Look at that fence!  A little back story on this side of our house.  Probably 5 years ago I'm guessing, we decided to try and grow a little garden in this space.  See the little white picket fences that are all a mess in the before photo?  Well, clearly the garden didn't work.  We didn't do much to it after nothing really grew here.  All of those branches are weeds!  I have never seen so many weeds before buying this house.  But, we on the other hand haven't really put much work into our yard so it's not all the yard's fault.  Haha.  So the after photo is my blood sweat and tears of ripping out all of those weeds, raking up all the fallen dead leaves, and whatever else that ended up in this space.  It was a lot of work!
Our dog George was perfectly happy in the back of the truck, we had to make him get out!
After all our hard work Saturday, we went to our favorite Mexican restaurant Cancun and had some margaritas.  It was well worth it.  And these two?  ♥
Sunday, we still had some errands to do for the yard, but in the meantime we got some new flip flops for Miss Hadley.
Finished product!  The entire front yard is covered in hay.  This part wasn't hard, just very time consuming and hard on our already sore muscles!  So glad it's done though.  Our water bill is going to be big, but if it's worth getting new pretty grass, it's worth every drop!

Happy Monday everyone, make it a great week!

around here.

around here finally bought some plants for the office!  I chose something easy for now, let's see how long these babies live.  One week down, and good so far.
around here had my first mammogram!  I don't know why most women make this out to be the worst thing ever.  It wasn't bad at all, I mean it's a little uncomfortable for like 5 seconds and then it's over.  Got the 3D screening verses the 2D since it was covered through insurance, no reason not to get the one that shows more if it doesn't cost me a dime.  No brainer!
around here Hadley had picture day at her school, after we got home we ate dinner out on the back deck and dreaming of the day when the pool is open for summer! (#merzoasis)
around here George hanging out with us on the back deck.
around here the day after picture day, she wore a dress again.  Picked the whole outfit herself, including the matching red bow!  Proud moment.
around here the soil test we ordered came in, it's to test the soil in our yard and see what it may or may not need to re-do our lawn.
around here our beautiful magnolia tree in the front yard, it smells so lovely!

Happy Friday, I'm so excited for this weekend.  We have lots on the to-do list, including the kitchen, and yard.  Low to mid-sixties for the weekend weather forecast, I'll take it.  Just hope the sun comes out to make it a little warmer.  Plus today marks a big day for my husband, it's his last day working at the pizza place.  He's been a delivery driver for the past 2 years as a side job but with recent events it turned into a full time job.  After today, no more crazy hours, no more tired hubby, a regular schedule finally!  I will share more on that subject soon.  But for now, we are happy to have him home on a more regular basis!  Yay!  Happy weekend my peeps!

k&m / april.

A new year of K&M monthly posts.  Fun fun right?  Here we go...

The few pictures we have taken in April, this was the best.

Went to the Reds Opening Day parade, and it was freezing!

It was crowded, but we had fun.

We went to a Reds game this month and had the best time.

Great seats, great free food, not so free beer, and good company.

Went to the lake for a change of scenery.

The kids enjoy the lake so much, even in the winter cold freezing rainy months.

I love it that they all get so excited to go to the lake every time.

He went to the dentist for the first time in 9+ years.

Want to guess how many cavities?

He has teeth of a horse.

I would've had a mouthful of root canals knowing my luck with teeth.

So glad he went though.

Next up for both of us is doctor visits.

We're not getting any younger!

One more week of April and the kitchen will hopefully be done.

And I cannot wait to take photos of everything.

39th year list.

As you might have read recently, I talked about the last year of my thirties last month.  I have a little list in my head about the things I want to accomplish and finish this year.  But the more I think about it, the more I keep adding so I thought I'd share!
I created this hashtag on Instagram if you'd like to follow along : #mjmlastyearof30s  Did you know you can follow hashtags only instead of following a person/group?  Pretty awesome.  So anytime someone posts using that specific hashtag you will see it instead of every post from that person.
So without further ado, here is my little checklist so far...
  1. Get boobies checked
  2. Get skin checked
  3. Look into getting a colonoscopy early (family history)
  4. Take care of myself mentally
  5. Take care of myself physically
  6. Watch my stress levels
  7. Breath more to relax
  8. Get mani/pedis
  9. Surround myself with people that make me shine
  10. Use sunscreen on my face in the summer
  11. Travel at every opportunity
  12. Don't be afraid to ask for what I want
  13. Go to Florida at least once, even for a few days
  14. Learn how to say no to people, activities, & obligations that don't bring any value or meaning to my life
  15. Invest in my family
  16. Get our yard looking normal
Might add to the list, might take away some, or keep it as it is! We shall see.  But I like having something like this to keep in my mind and to have in this space to refer back to.  This last year of my thirties is going to be great!  So far, one month in, it's been pretty darn good!

what's your favorite way to eat popcorn?

We love to eat popcorn as a snack after dinner.  Most of the time it's just Kevin and I eating it on the couch after the kids go to bed.
The kind of popcorn I love is the Kroger brand 94% fat free.  I also love the movie type popcorn which is covered in butter, but for some reason I can only eat that at the movie theater.  Having that much salt and butter is too much for me, not a big salt fan on anything.

We use spray butter for popcorn, it's so good!  We just pop the popcorn, split it into two bowls one for each of us, then spray the butter on the popcorn.  That's it!  Very simple, but so good and not many calories verses the loaded butter popcorn.

So how do you eat your popcorn?  Any specific way or just plain?

from the weekend.

Friday night we went over to my parents house to grill out for dinner, it was so beautiful outside.  Mother nature is teasing us for sure, because this week is supposed to get back to the colder temps.
Saturday we randomly decided to go to the lake, we hopped in the back of my father-in-law's pickup truck to go see the horses.  George our dog would not move over, he was right on top of Brady and Hadley, it was hilarious watching it.
Hadley looks like she's holding on for dear life!
Hadley playing with PaPa at the table.

It was a nice, pretty much do nothing kind of weekend.
Happy Monday folks!

around here.

around here Kevin made chili for our cook-off at work.  He didn't win, but had lots of fans!
around here went to dinner to celebrate Grandad's birthday, these two turkeys have so much fun together!
around here we have a nest in the backyard, the mama bird set it up right in the wide open!
around here working hard on The 100 Day Project but it's tough to do one every day.  Trying though!
around here went to the Reds game, had club seats and the best weather!

Happy weekend people! Maybe we can finish the kitchen this weekend?  Feel like I say that every weekend, but life just gets in the way most times.  Had a good week.  Had so much fun at the Reds game, and ready to see what this weekend has in store for us.  Happy Friday my peeps!

just because.

When I was younger, I never thought I would meet the one.  In high school I didn't have many boyfriends. Partly because I was so shy. Then college came and I had boyfriends, but none that really struck me as "oh man he is just awesome."  I always thought what I wanted didn't exist.  Over the years there were occasions where I wondered if it was ever going to happen for me.

Then I started dating Kev almost nine years ago.
He was so perfect for me, I didn't think it could be true.
He still is.

Because for me, there is truly nothing more exciting or sacred than finding that someone to share your life with. Over the years, we've definitely had our share of trials and tribulations - but despite all this, everyday I have something to be grateful for.  Having him in my life, made anything else temporary and bearable.  Having him reminds me, no matter what, I am so lucky.  And I need to remind myself of that every now and then.  So this is my little reminder.

So today I just wanted to celebrate that.
Celebrate him. Just because.

from the weekend.

Here's a peek from our weekend...

Friday / We grilled steak for dinner in the freezing cold.

Saturday / Pretended to be tigers from the zoo, and playing Mama to all her little babies.

Sunday / Hung around the messy house, it's still all a mess from our kitchen.  It's almost finished!  And, Hadley took a few selfies with my phone.

Things have been so crazy lately, just feel out of the zone with life in general.  Ever feel that way?  Need to get back into my own little groove soon.  Once our kitchen is back to normal will help, it's rough trying to make anything with things all over the place.  And, I think it's this crazy weather we're having lately, winter just doesn't want to leave for some reason.  It's messing everyone up!  haha

P.S.  Happy Birthday to my Daddio!  Hope you have the best day!
