k&m / february.

A new year of K&M monthly posts.  Fun fun right?  Here we go....

February has been a month.

Started off with Hadley having the flu.

Watched the Superbowl at home.

Celebrated Valentines Day by being surprised in the morning with flowers and a card.

Dinner celebrating K&M's new and future jobs!

Watched the Cincinnati Bearcats in a suite.

Both of us were off for Presidents Day.

Spent the day working on our kitchen, but not before a trip to Frisch's Big Boy for breakfast.

I came down with the flu mid-month.

Not fun.

He has managed to stay healthy.

Let's knock on wood for that.

No snow this month, but the rain.  Goodness the rain.

from the weekend.

We are in the middle of doing some small updates to our kitchen, and I found this stash of burlap I've had in the basement! Totally forgot about this! A few years ago a burlap company reached out to me to send free burlap if I would post projects using it. Well, here it is!
We've been painting off and on with all this kitchen stuff going on, and Hadley has been patiently waiting for this piece of wood to dry out from all this rain. It finally dried, so we laid out a big old sheet and let her go to town. We aren't going to use it for anything, in fact she wants to paint her name on it and hang it in her room haha
Love this Irish blessing that popped up on my phone this weekend.  It's from the One Second Everyday app that I talked about a few weeks ago. It sends little reminders or quotes every few days.
And guess what, it's Monday and it's not raining!  Above are more photos of the Ohio River flooding.  I feel for those affected by all this crazy water everywhere, hope the river goes down soon.  We are not due for anymore rain until Wednesday, so maybe the water will go down some by then.

Happy Monday, make it a great week!

around here.

around here started to slowly remodel our kitchen! We are giving it some simple updates.
around here we went to the UC basketball game and scored suite tickets! It was awesome.
around here Hadley watching the pizza being made!
around here we spent our Presidents Day at Home Depot.  Hadley loved watching the guy cut wood.
around here we had nice weather for about one day this week, played outside for a little bit with George.
around here we are flooding big time with all this rain. (above photo via : Cincinnati Refined)

Whew what a week.  It's been nothing but rain all around, plus flooding is just craziness.  I hope the businesses and homes effected by the flooding get to a safe place or have plans in place.  Plus, I came down with a mild case of the flu bug this week too.  It wasn't too terribly bad, but the flu is the flu.  Just felt run down a little, but back to myself again.  We started doing little things to our kitchen, which I cannot wait to share the final result.  We still have lots to do, most things just take time and it's hard when we both work and with a three year old running around makes it even harder.  She's gotten her hands on some freshly painted paint a few times haha

Up for this weekend, dinner to celebrate an awesome accomplishment for a family member, more kitchen work, and that's pretty much it.

Happy weekend!

around here.

around here the sky was gorgeous the other night.  No filter!
around here made Hadley's Valentines Day box for school, the unicorn was soo cute!
around here surprised with flowers and a card in the morning before work.
around here love seeing the pictures from Hadleys school for their Valentines Day party!
around here took a shot at making chipotle chicken! Going to try it this weekend, it had to marinade overnight.

Wow what a week! Crazy weather, lots of rain, up and down temperatures, seriously cannot wait for spring to get here. I feel like I say that every week now!  We had a day where it reached 60 and it felt like summer. Such a tease mother nature!

Up for this weekend, starting to work on my kitchen remodel of 2023, as previously mentioned in this post.  We are going to start small and slow, and see what happens. Cannot wait! Dinner with the family, and a basketball game!

On a more not so happy note, my heart has been super heavy for all the people who lost loved ones in the Florida shooting.  I just don't understand this world, not sure I ever will.  It's a struggle everyday, but try to live each day like it's your last.  We only get one life.

blog calendar.

Keeping track of blog posts is an important part of keeping up a blog.  For the past seven years, I've used the same concept when it comes to planning blog posts each month.  I keep my handy little blog calendar in my Happy Planner, so I can access it any time I need to, especially if an idea pops in my brain.
I found this calendar on the Beautifully Tarnished Blog and it's worked out great, I love it!  It's got a cute little design for the year, but nothing too over the top.  As you can see for January, I blogged 21 times out of the 23 days of the week.  I count Monday through Friday as the days because I typically do not blog on the weekends, unless it's a special day or something. So for the first month of the year, I started off pretty strong!
Each month I write out blog ideas on this calendar, which helps me when planning future posts.  What I started doing in the box at the bottom of each calendar, is writing out any reoccurring posts I have to remind myself about them and of course to check them off.  On the bottom empty lines, I write out anything to look ahead for the next month and to start thinking of anything for that month.
Here is the month of March.  Not much planned yet, a few reoccurring posts and big things like one of my favorite holidays St. Patrick's Day and the first day of Spring!
These monthly calendars are a huge help, and love having them as a separate thing in addition to my normal planner calendar.  I don't think I'll ever be able to go electronic when it comes to planning things!

How do you keep track of blog posts?  I'd love to see how others manage posts each month!

valentines day decor.

Did a little decorating for Valentines Day this week, had lots of free time with the little one sickies.  Cleaned a lot too.  Anytime someone is sick, I always wipe things down even door knobs!  Anyways, I love decorating for the different holidays!  The XOXO banner was made a few years ago, I cut the pieces out of burlap, and painted the letters and hearts directly on the burlap, and then glued string on the back.  Heart candy is always a must.  Made a little banner out of felt, these were previously cut from awhile ago, and all I did was tape them to a piece of string and hung them up behind the TV.  Chalkboard sign for the front porch, and chopped off a little of the felt banner to hang up on the chalkboard.  Table cloth from the dollar store, the heart plates and napkins from Kroger. Super easy!

Love is in the air!  Happy Valentines Day week!

around here.

around here didn't really do much for the Superbowl, my homemade decorations were pretty much the extent of it.  But that halftime show?  Awesome.
around here this little sickie girl is such a trooper, and Brady in the background in timeout.
around here she was diagnosed with the flu and an ear infection.  This is us waiting for almost two hours to see the doctor.  Not fun.
around here did a little Valentines Day crafting.
around here already picked out Hadley's Valentines Day cards for her friends at school.  I cannot wait until she gets into grade school and all these fun little crafty things we can do together!  I remember getting so excited to pick out my school supplies before the school year started.

It's Friday!  What seemed like a very long tiring week, is now finally over.   A minor setback we experienced this week, was getting our three year old to take medicine for the ear infection.  She refused.  Like threw it all up refused.  Alternative that is working at the moment is mixing it with orange juice.  Slow process, but it's working.  Shout out to kid doctors..."can you please make medicine taste like candy?  Thanks."  Okay, theirs my two cents for the day.

Up for this weekend, a benefit for a volleyball ref that is battling cancer.  Hope to make an appearance and show our support.  Other than that, just chilling and staying warm.  Soo over these cold days.

Happy weekend!

good news.

We are back to a normal routine! Hadley is back at school, which means back to a normal routine. Which is the best! The flu is hopefully gone, her symptoms are just a runny nose and a cough now which I can handle.  Now let's just hope and pray all those other parents keep their kids washing hands and having good hygiene. The flu is crazy out there! For sure do not want Hadley getting it again or anyone in our house for that matter!

So happy to get back to regular around here, and so happy my sweet girl is feeling better. Have a ton of blog posts planned for February! Woot woot. Blogging is fun.  It should be my job!

Happy Thursday!

the flu.

The flu is here.

We've been down for the count for a few days over here, and in reality it's not been so bad.  Being out in public makes me freak out more than having a three year old with the flu at home to be honest. I know it's not preventable, just like anything in life if it's going to happen it's going to happen. But, I am trying my hardest to prevent it from happening any further! She has the flu and an ear infection. Poor thing.  She is such a trooper though. You'd never know she had all that going on in that little body of hers.

The photo above is from Sunday night, we grilled out steak and just for me to leave Hadley's side for a few minutes is almost an undertaking.  Kevin had her stand on our bed with piles of pillows to look out the window while I grilled. Her looking out the window only lasted a few minutes, and secretly I savored every last second of standing outside in the cold grilling some delicious steaks all by myself.

Having a kid is awesome and it is the best thing I've ever done. However, when they are sick and wanting to be attached to your hip every waking second it gets to be a lot. She had a fever for 3 days, so we went to the little clinic on Sunday and waited for almost 2 hours! It was not fun.

We are on day five of her being sick, but day two with no fever which is great news.  Let’s hope for  school tomorrow!  Need some normalcy again, being stuck in the house is not fun.  You should see how clean the floors are!

around here.

around here enjoying the warm sunshine while it lasted.  Now it's freezing!
around here coloring with Hadley. She could color all day long, along with painting.
around here happy February! Love my beach calendar, makes it nice to look at especially when it's frigid outside.
around here Hadley painting with colored ice cubes at school, love how her teachers send me photos.

Happy Friday! Made it through another week, just wish the weather would warm up but I'm afraid we're right in the middle of winter.  If it's going to be this cold, could it at least snow?

Not much planned for this weekend except to watch the 2018 Superbowl! I am still on the fence with who I want to root for, I don't know why but I'm thinking the Patriots this time.  I've read some interesting facts about their team lately and was impressed.  Last year we had our own little party and I made all these fun decorations and snacks.  Probably not so much this year. I'm most excited about seeing my man JT!

Happy Friday and have a good weekend!

P.S.
Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow....boo!

one month of one second photos.

Happy February!

I wanted to share this app that I've been using to document 2018 so far, it's called 1 second everyday and it's awesome! At first I thought it would be difficult to remember to take a video everyday, but it's only one second out of the entire day! Super easy to use and figure out, but if you have any questions on it you can always go to Google and just ask. Google is my bff.

I've been seeing this app used on a few different blogs I follow so I thought to try something new this year! Here is the app link for those that would like to try it.

On January 1st, I started recording parts of our days.
You can see the video by clicking the link:  January 2018 / 1 Second Everyday

Capturing just a second out of the day sounded super complicated for my planning mind. But in all seriousness, it turned out to be really really easy. I don't really worry about getting the best one second video everyday, I just focus on what's going on that day and think about what might make it in the app and what won't. And the nice thing about the app is you can take a regular video, and then later on crop it down to the best one second you love.

Some things that I've figured out on my own that might help someone else out there...

Hold the camera horizontally.  That is pretty much the standard when taking videos anyways. When people take videos vertically, it gets all out of wack and you have to hold the phone upside down and turn it to see it good. So take my advice on this one, just hold the phone horizontal. Trust me.

Take actual videos not photos.  This app is meant for a one second video everyday, not a photo. If you don't have a video for one day then by all means, add a photo in there but the whole vibe of this is to have one second videos. So try really hard to video with the app.

Don't over think it.  At first I thought taking a video everyday for an entire year might seem a little bit extreme, but after having the month of January down I've gotten into the habit for the most part. Did I forget one day? Absolutely. But you can go back to that date and add the video. It really is pretty easy. Try not to focus on something big or major happening each day, just capture anything. It really adds up in the end.

Capture the seasons.  Right now we are in the dead of winter, nothing but slosh and nasty sleet and foreseeable snow in the future. Not my idea of fun videos, but it'll be fun to see the seasons change in each one.

It was so much fun for the first month, I cannot wait to see all twelve months in one video!
